KUANTAN, March 20 (Bernama) -- Pahang recorded the highest number of hotel guests among local tourists, with 11.6 million people recorded last year.

Pahang Unity, Tourism and Culture Committee chairman Leong Yu Man said that five districts showing a positive number of tourist arrivals are Bentong, Kuantan, Cameron Highlands, Temerloh and Rompin.

Tourist destinations such as Genting Highlands, Cameron Highlands, Kuantan City, Cherating, and Pulau Tioman remain relevant and continue to attract attention with the number of tourist arrivals consistently increasing yearly, he said in a statement today.

According to Tourism Malaysia data, he said that Kuala Lumpur ranks second with 9.8 million people, followed by Johor (7.4 million people), Selangor (6.1 million people), and Penang, which recorded a total of 5.2 million local hotel guests.

Meanwhile, Leong said Pahang has also recorded the highest average length of stay rate in Malaysia with a rate of 75.6 per cent for the period from January to December 2024.

He said this shows a positive increase of 1.5 per cent compared to 2023, which was 74.1 per cent.

"The average room rate is assessed based on more than 36,000 registered accommodation rooms in Pahang, sourced from the Tourism Malaysia strategic planning division," said Leong.
