MIMOS, SENSOREMTEK ESTABLISHES STRONG COLLABORATION IN SEMICONDUCTOR INDUSTRY

KUALA LUMPUR, March 20 (Bernama) -- MIMOS Berhad and SensoremTek Sdn Bhd have signed a strategic cooperation agreement to strengthen the country's semiconductor industry through the production of high-tech MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) microphone sensor wafers.

MIMOS Berhad acting president and group chief executive officer Dr Saat Shukri Embong said the collaboration is an important step in transforming Malaysia into a high-value semiconductor hub.

"With investment in high-tech fabrication infrastructure, MIMOS accelerates local production capabilities and reduces dependence on external suppliers for critical MEMS technology," he said in a statement today.

According to him, MIMOS, with the support of stakeholders, will channel investments to strengthen the role of its fabrication plant in the Malaysian semiconductor ecosystem supply chain.

"This collaboration allows MIMOS to enhance back-end fabrication with front-end technology driven by SensoremTek through technology transfer and knowledge transfer," he said.

Saat Shukri said that SensoremTek will supply advanced MEMS microphone sensor technology in addition to continuously supporting research and development (R&D) activities.

"This collaboration is not just a business endeavour, but a bold step towards achieving independence in semiconductor manufacturing," he said.

According to the statement, the agreement is also expected to strengthen Malaysia's position in the global Electrical and Electronics (E&E) value chain, create high-skilled job opportunities and attract foreign direct investment (FDI).

MIMOS and SensoremTek, it is said, are also committed to producing a skilled workforce in the semiconductor field through intensive training programmes as part of efforts to support Malaysia's aspirations towards Industry 4.0 leadership.
