CREATION OF PERMANENT POSTS WILL EMPOWER NSRC FUNCTIONS - NFCC

PUTRAJAYA, March 21 (Bernama) -- The National Anti-Financial Crime Centre (NFCC) supports the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) proposal to create 139 permanent positions to enhance the role and function of the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC).

NFCC director-general Datuk Seri Shamshun Baharin Mohd Jamil said various efforts were being actively undertaken with other agencies, including PDRM, Bank Negara Malaysia, and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), to restructure the NSRC, including establishing a new operations centre in Cyberjaya.

“NFCC would like to remind the public to be cautious of calls claiming to be from NSRC or NFCC. We do not call individuals to seek personal or banking information,” he said in a statement here today.

Shamshun Baharin Mohd Jamil urged victims of online financial fraud to contact the NSRC hotline at 997 immediately to report incidents and seek advice.

Established in October 2022, NSRC serves as a rapid response call centre and coordinating operations centre to combat online financial fraud, with expertise in tracking transferred funds, including cases involving impersonation of NSRC or NFCC officers to deceive victims.

On Wednesday, Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf was reported as saying that efforts to streamline the NSRC structure were ongoing, including the creation of permanent positions to enhance its operational effectiveness.

He said that through the restructuring, PDRM would lead NSRC’s operational aspects under the supervision of the Home Ministry.
