KUALA LUMPUR, March 22 (Bernama) -- This Ramadan brought light to six selected “asnaf” (tithe recipients) families at the Kerinchi People's Housing Project (PPR), in Bangsar, as they not only received contributions for Aidilfitri preparations but also assistance in the form of monthly house rental.
Takaful Ikhlas Family Berhad (Takaful IKHLAS) president and chief executive officer (CEO) Wan Ahmad Najib Wan Ahmad Lotfi, said the aid was part of an initiative under IKHLAS Lestari, a newly launched programme by Takaful IKHLAS aimed at providing continuous support to the needy.
"It is hoped that this initiative will help ease the burden of those in need and assist them in preparing for the arrival of Syawal," he said when met by reporters after launching KHLAS Lestari at IKHLAS Point, Bangsar, yesterday.
Earlier, Wan Ahmad Najib, along with Takaful Ikhlas General Berhad president and CEO Datuk Rudy Rodzila Che Lamin, and Malaysian Reinsurance Berhad president and CEO Ahmad Noor Azhari Abdul Manaf, accompanied by the Lestari Squad, visited the six families to handover the donations.
In addition to assistance for Hari Raya preparations and monthly house rental payments, the families also received aid in medical expenses, electrical appliances, kitchen items and Raya money.
Based on the principle of mutual assistance, which is the core of the takaful concept, Wan Ahmad Najib said the programme provides an opportunity for Takaful IKHLAS participants to contribute to society.
It also strengthens the bond between Takaful IKHLAS and the people, in line with the spirit of togetherness and compassion that it seeks to foster, he added.
Meanwhile, one of the recipients, Hamidah Kamarudin, 61, who runs a food business, expressed her gratitude for the assistance after waiting a long time for support to help her business.
"I am very happy and touched to receive this much-needed assistance. I have received many orders for lime pickles, but I was not able to meet the orders because I had no space in the refrigerator.
"With this assistance and the new refrigerator, it will help me and my family," she told Bernama.
Hamidah, a mother of three, received assistance for house rent, a wheelchair, and Hari Raya aid.
