KUALA LUMPUR, April 3 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia ended the morning session slightly lower, in tandem with regional markets, as US President Donald Trump unveiled his reciprocal tariffs plan.
At 12.30 pm, the FBM KLCI eased 4.40 points, or 0.29 per cent, to 1,522.12, from Wednesday’s close of 1,526.52.
The benchmark index opened 9.22 points easier at 1,517.30 and moved between 1,517.30 and 1,524.41 throughout the morning trading session.
In the broader market, decliners outpaced gainers 449 to 348, with 400 counters unchanged, 1,150 untraded and eight suspended.
Turnover stood at 1.62 billion shares worth RM904.36 million.
Malacca Securities Sdn Bhd maintained its focus on sectors less affected by the reciprocal tariffs, such as utilities and consumer products and services, as President Trump imposed a 24 per cent reciprocal tariff on Malaysia.
“We believe the sub-utility company like MN Holdings could continue benefiting from Tenaga Nasional Bhd’s contracts.
“Meanwhile, we also favour the banking sector, as the Malaysian economy is expected to grow at 4.5 per cent to 5.5 per cent this year,” it said in a research note today.
Among the heavyweight counters, MISC advanced seven sen to RM7.21, while CelcomDigi, RHB Bank and Maxis were flat at RM3.62, RM6.90 and RN3.41, respectively.
Maybank fell six sen to RM10.26, Public Bank eased one sen to RM4.38, TNB shed 10 sen to RM13.66, CIMB declined four sen to RM7.10, and IHH Healthcare went down seven sen to RM6.82.
Among the actives, Top Glove appreciated 5.5 sen to 86 sen, Supermax grew seven sen to 78.5 sen, T7 improved by 1.5 sen to 33.5 sen, and Hartalega jumped 15 sen to RM2.01, while Sapura Energy was flat at five sen, and Pertama Digital eased two sen to eight sen.
On the index board, the FBM 70 Index rose 18.76 points to 16,225.17, the FBM Emas Index was 18.89 points easier to 11,371.43, the FBMT 100 Index gave up 20.28 points to 11,139.08, the FBM Emas Shariah Index slipped 10.59 points to 11,124.38, and the FBM ACE Index decreased 27.23 points to 4,738.83.
Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index shaved 77.70 points to 18,494.60, and the Industrial Products and Services Index edged down 0.96 of-a-point to 150.93.
The Plantation Index went down 9.50 points to 7,398.61, and the Energy Index trimmed 4.89 points to 740.16.
