KUALA LUMPUR, April 17 (Bernama) -- Eight-year-old S. Harsheetaa Sai, who was born with congenital heart defects, arrived in the United States on Tuesday to undergo life-saving surgery.
The matter was confirmed by her father, R. Selva Ganapathy, who is a teacher at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil Saraswathy in Sungai Buloh.
Harsheetaa, who studies at the school where her father teaches, has been battling heterotaxy since birth and is scheduled to receive treatment at Boston Children’s Hospital, a leading medical centre in Massachusetts.
“We have safely landed at Logan Airport, Boston, on Tuesday. We are scheduled for several walk-in appointments and check-ups, including Echo and Catheterisation, starting from today.
“The scheduled admission is on April 29. We just want to take a moment to thank each and every one of you who stood by us throughout this journey. Your prayers, contributions, shares, and kind words meant the world to us,” Selva Ganapathy told Bernama via WhatsApp.
Heterotaxy is a rare congenital disorder where internal organs develop in abnormal positions due to improper left-right patterning during foetal development. It commonly affects the heart, lungs, liver, spleen and intestines, often leading to severe complications
Recently, Selva Ganapathy expressed his gratitude to Malaysians for raising RM1.5 million for his daughter's heart surgery.
On March 20, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim extended financial aid to Harsheetaa’s family, and the contribution was delivered by his political secretary, Datuk Ahmad Farhan Fauzi, during a visit to the girl's home in Batu Caves, Selangor.
