ALOR SETAR, April 17 (Bernama) -- Aman Seterra Sanctuary, which is expected to begin construction in Kuala Temoyong, Langkawi next year, is set to become the world’s first Islamic-inspired International Retirement Village.

The project, which will position Malaysia as a prime international retirement destination, is the result of a collaboration between Bina Darulaman Bhd (BDB) through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Aman Lagenda Sdn Bhd, and Seterra Holdings Sdn Bhd.

BDB group executive director Raja Shahreen Raja Othman said that the Aman Seterra Sanctuary, being developed on a 5.03-hectare site, will offer services to retirees and senior citizens from around the world by integrating the concepts of independent living, assisted care, and long-term care.

"According to data from the Department of Statistics Malaysia, the country has passed the 'Ageing Society' threshold in 2024, accelerating the demand for specialised services for the elderly. Aman Seterra Sanctuary is ready to become a model for sustainable retirement communities in Southeast Asia.

"Located in a highly strategic area, Aman Seterra Sanctuary will leverage the natural beauty that can attract retirees from abroad. It is being developed with eco-friendly and green building designs, featuring community gardens and outdoor areas, promising a luxurious lifestyle at affordable rates," he said in a press conference here, today.

Earlier, Raja Shahreen represented Aman Lagenda Sdn Bhd in the Exchange of the Joint Venture and Shareholders’ Agreement with Seterra Holdings, which was represented by Seterra Group of Companies chief executive officer Rashidi Yahaya.

The event was witnessed by BDB chairman Che Had Dhali and Seterra Group of Companies chairman M Yusof Ahamad.

Raja Shahreen said that Aman Seterra Sanctuary will provide complete facilities and infrastructure to meet the needs of retirees and senior citizens, including a mini ambulatory care centre, a memory clinic for dementia care, rehabilitation and wellness programmes, social and entertainment areas, and dedicated prayer rooms.

“Aman Seterra Sanctuary is also expected to boost tourism potential by attracting retirees from countries such as Japan, Australia, and Singapore...we hope by early 2028, retirees and senior citizens will be able to reside in the retirement village,” he said.

Meanwhile, Rashidi said a total of 780 residential units will be available at the retirement village, where retirees and senior citizens can choose to live either in apartments or premium suites offering studio, two-bedroom and three-bedroom units.

"Kedah will be the first state in Malaysia to initiate such a project, and it will certainly be a catalyst for the state's growth, providing job opportunities, especially in healthcare, hospitality, construction, and management sectors, as well as spur local businesses such as retail and support services," he added.
