‘SULALATUS SALATIN’ VISUALISED WITH 37 ARTWORKS ON DISPLAY IN MELAKA

MELAKA, April 17 (Bernama) -- This is the last call for visitors and art enthusiasts far and wide for the opportunity to see up close works of art created by the country's renowned artists, which is an interpretation of the classic Malay text ‘Sulalatus Salatin’ in visual form.

Chairman of the Melaka Artists Association, Pardan Moslem, said a total of 37 artworks are showcased at the ‘Manifestation: From Text of Sulalatus Salatin to Visual Art’ exhibition, which is currently being held at the Melaka Art Gallery for four months, starting from Jan 1 and ending this month. 

He said these artworks are produced in various forms, including paintings, sculptures, mixed media and installation art, created by 27 local artists, primarily members of the association.

“Among the popular artworks exhibited is ‘Waadat’ by Dr Sharmiza Abu Hassan, interpreted as an installation art piece. This particular work has not only been displayed in several museums across the country but has also been showcased at the Singapore Art Museum.

“The exhibition also features pieces by renowned sculptor Dr Rosli Zakaria, themed around struggle, illustrating the legendary duel between Hang Tuah and Hang Jebat," he said here today.

He said Sulalatus Salatin was chosen as the theme of the exhibition since it is known as ‘Sejarah Melayu’  (The Malay Annals) and which which recounts the glory of the Melaka Sultanate.

He said the exhibition is being held in line with the Madani government's encouragement to strengthen and elevate the fields of arts and culture alongside the nation's progress.

Meanwhile, Assistant Curator of the Malacca Museum Corporation, Fairuz Mamat said that visitor response to the exhibition has been quite encouraging.

“About 500 to 600 visitors have been recorded visiting the Malacca Art Gallery per month to view the exhibition, with ticket prices ranging from RM3 to RM5 per person.

"The public still has the opportunity to visit it until the end of the month (April 30) to see various interesting artworks, while also gaining a better understanding of great Malay history,” Fairuz said.
