KUALA LUMPUR,  April 17 (Bernama) -- The Kasih@HAWANA Fund came as a meaningful Aidilfitri gift for former Media Prima journalist Mazlin Nordin, 58, who said the contribution revived her spirit and strengthened her resolve to continue serving the community.

Mazlin, from Klang, Selangor, expressed her gratitude for being selected as a recipient during the Ministry of Communications’ Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration held at the Seri Angkasa Auditorium today.

“Alhamdulillah, I was chosen by HAWANA... this isn’t just financial aid - it’s a morale booster that inspires me to keep helping others,” she told Bernama.

Six media practitioners received the Kasih@HAWANA contribution, presented by Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, to help ease their financial and health-related burdens.

Also present at the event were Deputy Minister Teo Nie Ching and Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, along with Bernama Chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, Chief Executive Officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin, and Editor-in-Chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj.

Mazlin, known for her work on TV3’s Bersamamu programme, had long been active in charitable efforts alongside NGOs and fellow volunteers.

She is currently battling health issues, including diabetes and heart disease, and underwent heart surgery at the National Heart Institute (IJN) on March 25.

Other recipients of the aid were former Media Prima journalist Aidil Abdul Ghaffar, 57; former Karangkraf journalist Zailani Ahmad, 60; former The Vibes journalist Mohd Shahrim Mohd Tampin, 50; Malaysia Gazette journalist Nurayuni Johari, 33; and Bernama technical producer Noor Azizi Abdul Kasim, 54.

Noor Azizi, who is still serving with BERNAMA TV, said the assistance would help cover part of his family’s medical expenses.

“I just got back from the hospital. I’ve had a stroke, heart problems, and diabetes,” he said, adding that he is still undergoing follow-up treatment.

Kasih@HAWANA is an initiative by the Ministry of Communications through Bernama, aimed at supporting current and former media practitioners facing health or financial challenges, in recognition of their contributions to the field of journalism.

Launched in April 2023, the initiative has since benefited 366 media personnel nationwide.
