MAIWP ALLOCATES RM58.8 MIL IN AID FOR LABUAN ASNAF COMMUNITY

LABUAN, April 20 (Bernama) -- The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) has allocated RM58.8 million in aid for the asnaf community in Labuan for the year 2025.

The allocation includes RM39 million for living assistance and RM19.8 million for basic necessities aid. 

Both forms of assistance will benefit over 6,000 registered recipients in Labuan on a monthly basis.

MAIWP chairman Syed Kamarulzaman Syed Kabeer announced the aid during the 2025 MADANI Aidilfitri celebration held at Medan Selera here today.

The event, organised by MAIWP Labuan, in collaboration with JAWI Labuan, the Mufti Department, Syariah Court, Syariah Prosecution Department, and the MAIWP Zakat Collection Centre, attracted more than 5,000 attendees, including asnaf families, government officials, community leaders, zakat contributors, and local residents.

Over 35 stalls operated by local mosques and surau under JAWI added to the festive atmosphere.

During the event, Labuan native and Labuan Matriculation College lecturer Shaelayani Mohd Hasli was named the 2025 MAIWP Labuan Asnaf Icon Award recipient. She had previously benefited from MAIWP’s education zakat assistance from her secondary school years through to university.

She received RM1,000 in cash, a certificate, and a token of appreciation in recognition of her achievements.

Meanwhile, MAIWP also distributed RM20 duit raya to 2,000 children from asnaf families, amounting to RM40,000 in total. Additionally, 200 asnaf individuals received prayer garments worth RM24,000.
