BUKIT MERTAJAM, April 26 (Bernama) -- The Penang-level Kita MADANI Carnival, organised by the State Information Department (JaPEN), surpassed its target of 2,000 visitors, drawing more than 3,000 people from diverse backgrounds, said director Hasmiza Husin.

She said more than 40 government and private agencies participated in the carnival, including the Health Department, Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, Road Transport Department, Social Security Organisation, National Higher Education Fund Corporation, as well as various agencies under the Ministry of Communications.

"The response from the local community was very encouraging. The programme began at 7 am with a fun run. I was thrilled to see the crowd gathering with great enthusiasm. The carnival was based on the concept of 'Leaders with the People', aimed at further strengthening the bond between leaders and the community.

"We also brought together a range of government initiatives and inspirations in one place to provide the public with easier access to accurate and up-to-date information," she told reporters during the event at the Seberang Perai Tengah District Education Office in Permatang Pasir here today.

The event was officiated by Penang Deputy Chief Minister I, Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid, and featured the symbolic presentation of 70 Bakul Rahmah aid baskets.

The one-day carnival line-up included the PUSPANITA Free Market, traditional games, e-sports tournaments, Rahmah MADANI Discount Sale, and a fire-fighting demonstration, as well as a Forum Perdana Ehwal Islam.

Meanwhile, Mohamad said the programme was introduced in Penang last year to engage the public by explaining state and federal-level government policies, initiatives and programmes.

“The MADANI concept championed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim focuses on inclusivity, people-centred service delivery, and strengthening ties between the government and the people,” he said.

He expressed hope that such efforts would continue to promote unity and social well-being among Penangites, in line with the Malaysia MADANI vision.
