SINGAPORE, May 4 (Bernama) -- United States (US) Secretary of State Marco Rubio has congratulated Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and the People’s Action Party (PAP) following their victory in the country’s general election (GE2025).
Rubio said the US looks forward to continuing close cooperation with the newly elected government and Wong to further strengthen economic ties, as well as bilateral defence and security cooperation — benefiting Americans, Singaporeans, and others across the region.
“For nearly 60 years, the United States and Singapore have shared a strong and enduring strategic partnership and a commitment to a secure, free, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region,” he said in a statement.
The PAP successfully retained its supermajority in GE2025, winning 87 out of 97 parliamentary seats.
The resounding victory provides a strong mandate for Wong, who led the party into a general election for the first time.
