AIRLINES REROUTE FLIGHTS AFTER PAKISTANI AIRSPACE CLOSURE

KUALA LUMPUR, May 7 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Airlines has rerouted two flights -- MH2 and MH22 -- following the closure of Pakistani airspace on May 6, 2025.

Malaysia Aviation Group Bhd (MAG) said the two Malaysia Airlines flights made brief refuelling stops in Doha, Qatar, before continuing to their respective destinations -- London Heathrow (United Kingdom) and Paris Charles de Gaulle (France) -- after being diverted due to the airspace closure.

MAG said all Malaysia Airlines flights to and from Amritsar (India) have been suspended until May 9, as Amritsar Airport will be closed from May 7 to 9 amid evolving security and operational conditions.

“The safety of our passengers and crew remains our highest priority. We are monitoring the situation closely and will continue to take all necessary measures to ensure safe and reliable operations,” MAG said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Batik Air has cancelled flights to and from Lahore (Pakistan), and Amritsar, on May 7 and 8, citing the ongoing regional situation.

“The affected routes include Kuala Lumpur–Lahore (departing at 5.35 pm) and Lahore–Kuala Lumpur (departing at 9.35 pm) on both days, as well as Kuala Lumpur–Amritsar (departing at 6.40 pm) and Amritsar–Kuala Lumpur (departing at 11.05 pm) on May 7,” Batik Air said.

Meanwhile, low-cost carrier AirAsia said it is monitoring the situation and will follow all required safety protocols, stressing that the safety of its guests and crew remains its top priority.

“Our operations are ongoing with slight adjustments, including rerouting certain flights to avoid the affected airspace and ensure safety, in line with guidance from the relevant authorities,” the airline said.
