BANGI, May 11 (Bernama) -- The ‘Jom Masuk U’ Carnival for Central Zone 2 at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) has drawn over 50,000 visitors, said Higher Education director-general Prof Datuk Dr Azlinda Azman.

She said the two-day roadshow, featuring over 70 exhibitors, aims to widen public access to higher education and provide accurate and comprehensive information on educational pathways that suit students' interests and qualifications.

"We want parents and students to make well-informed decisions that reflect students' interests and qualifications. This includes giving early exposure to Form One to Form Five students on the many pathways available for further education," she said after officiating the carnival, here today.

She said the programme, which kicked off yesterday, features four segments: an academic exhibition, an interactive simulation, an introduction to entrepreneurship, and education and financial consultation.

Today's events also saw the launch of UKM's Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) Assessment Centre.

Azlinda said APEL is crucial in providing opportunities for those with working experience to pursue further studies without relying solely on formal academic qualifications, allowing them to earn a diploma, degree, and master's degree.

On the growing trend of youths opting for careers such as content creators, Azlinda advised them not to abandon their education but to undergo short courses or micro-credential programmes offered by educational institutions that are aligned with current industry needs.

"It's fine if they want to become content creators. But be knowledgeable content creators who share accurate information," she said, adding that higher education institutions offer media programmes that can help them become quality influencers.

"Carnivals like this can help reignite the interest in learning.  It doesn't always have to be through a full degree as short courses that meet current needs are also a great option," she added.
