KUALA LUMPUR, May 19 (Bernama) -- The national sepak takraw squad has a bright future after performing excellently by winning two gold and two silver medals at the 2025 Asian Sepak Takraw Championship which concluded yesterday.

The country's two gold medals were came through the regu and quadrant events, while the silver medals were won in the doubles and team regu events.

President of the Sepak Takraw Association of Malaysia (PSM), Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan, said that although the national team failed to end their 34-year drought in the team regu, he was still proud of Malaysia's achievements in the championship after successfully achieving the set target.

"Alhamdulillah, Malaysia's target of reaching the final in all four events contested in this championship has been achieved. Two gold medals and two silver medals are a proud achievement for all of us.

"Although we lost to Thailand in the final of the team regu event, the performance shown was very encouraging and promises a bright future for the country's sepak takraw sport," he said in a statement today.

In the same statement, Mohd Sumali also expressed his gratitude to the Minister of Youth and Sports, Hannah Yeoh, the Asian Sepak Takraw Federation (ASTAF), the National Sports Council, the National Sports Institute, and PSM's strategic partners who helped make the championship a success.

"This success would not have been achieved without the close cooperation between PSM and ASTAF, sponsors, volunteers, and all parties involved directly or indirectly.

"I and PSM are committed to continue advancing the sport of sepak takraw in Malaysia and at the international level," he said.
