PUTRAJAYA, Oct 13 (Bernama) -- All state education directors, district education officers, and school administrators have been instructed to strengthen safety supervision at their respective institutions, including through spot checks.
Education director-general Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad said the measure is crucial to ensure that safety issues are promptly identified and addressed for the well-being of students, teachers, and all school staff.
“In terms of monitoring, I have instructed state education directors, district education officers, and department heads overseeing institutions - particularly those with schools under their purview - to conduct spot checks, ” he said.
“With these unannounced inspections, we can immediately identify and address issues that require urgent attention,” he told a special press conference here today.
Mohd Azam also emphasised the importance of safeguarding the instructional period in schools by ensuring teachers remain with their students during teaching and learning hours. Official duties outside the classroom must be managed carefully to avoid compromising student safety and supervision.
“I believe that in whatever initiative we implement, teachers must always be by their students’ side. I’m not saying teachers cannot go out, but they must remain present with their students,” he said.
He stressed that the Ministry of Education would not compromise with any party found to be negligent or failing to fulfil its responsibility in ensuring student safety at school.
“I will not hesitate to take stern action against any negligence or breach of procedure that jeopardises the safety of our educational institutions, particularly for students and school staff,” he said.
Mohd Azam said safety monitoring had also been strengthened through ongoing safety audits carried out by the School Inspectorate (Jemaah Nazir) in more than 1,000 schools and hostels nationwide.
