EX-GASAK DRILL AT LTSAAS TESTS SECURITY FORCES’ READINESS AHEAD OF ASEAN SUMMIT

SUBANG, Oct 14 (Bernama) -- Prompt action by security forces foiled a “kidnapping attempt” targeting a VIP at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport (LTSAAS), Subang, today.

A calm morning at the airport quickly turned tense when four armed individuals abducted the VIP and six others, threatening to kill them unless their escape route was cleared.

The situation was swiftly brought under control thanks to the prompt and coordinated response of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and other enforcement agencies.

LTSAAS manager Ahmad Fikri Samsudin said the incident was staged under the “Ex-Gasak” Airport Contingency Plan Full Exercise, conducted as part of preparations for this month’s ASEAN Summit.

“This airport will serve as the main entry point for international delegations, and conducting such exercises is crucial to ensure a high level of preparedness and seamless coordination among all agencies involved.

“It enhances our collective ability to respond swiftly and decisively in emergency situations,” he told reporters after the exercise concluded.

Ahmad Fikri said several international delegations had confirmed their arrival at the airport for the summit.

He said that although the exercise went smoothly, its main objective was to identify areas for improvement, and a post-mortem session would be held to review detailed feedback from the assessors.

Apart from the kidnapping of high-profile individuals, the exercise also simulated a hazardous chemical leak, during which various procedures were implemented to safeguard the public from potential risks.

Ahmad Fikri said the exercise involved 200 personnel from eight agencies, including the PDRM, the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department, the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia, the Ministry of Health, and several airlines.

“All procedures were carried out in accordance with the Airport Contingency Plan (ACP) guidelines,” he said.
