MALAYSIA TAHFIZ EDUCATION MODEL BEING DEVELOPED – MOHD NA’IM

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 29 (Bernama) -- The framework for the Malaysia Tahfiz Education Model (MPTM) is currently being developed to provide guidance and harmonise the tahfiz education system in the country, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar.

He said the MPTM comprises four educational models, namely Academic Tahfiz, Turath Tahfiz, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Tahfiz, and Tahfiz Intervention.

“All four models are in the development framework and are expected to be completed soon. The implementation of the models will be standardised across states for registered tahfiz institutions.

“It will serve as a guideline to determine the future direction of tahfiz institutions,” he said in response to a question from Datuk Ahmad Saad @ Yahaya (PN-Pokok Sena) regarding the future of the country’s huffaz (Tahfiz students)  during a Special Chamber session in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Mohd Na’im said a workshop discussing the framework was held on May 16, involving various agencies including the Ministry of Education (MOE), the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW), as well as representatives from universities and tahfiz institutions.

He said the government had previously introduced the National Tahfiz Education Policy (DPTN), formulated to add value and strengthen the existing policy to meet current needs, including addressing the employability issues of tahfiz graduates.

Mohd Na’im said two core thrusts of the DPTN form the basis for the development of the MPTM, namely establishing a standard tahfiz institutional model and creating a tahfiz education curriculum aligned with mainstream education.
