KOTA KINABALU, Nov 16 (Bernama) -- Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Karanaan state seat Md Nadzmin Kamin has pledged to focus on addressing the constituency’s three main issues — damaged roads, water supply and frequent power disruptions — if elected.
Md Nadzmin, who is in a seven-cornered fight for the seat under the Ranau parliamentary constituency, about 106 kilometres from here, in the 17th Sabah State Election, said these problems continue to undermine the local economy, particularly the tourism, agriculture and livestock sectors.
“Damaged roads make it difficult for operators to transport their produce to market, while congestion in Ranau town and the narrow road to Kundasang and Poring affect tourists’ experience.
“Water and electricity supply disruptions affect the operators of homestays, small factories and dairy product entrepreneurs,” he said in a statement after a walkabout in Nagaya and Tudan here today.
The 40-year-old candidate said he believes that only through an experienced and people-centric government can Ranau, particularly Karanaan, be restored as a hub for modern agriculture and a truly sustainable tourism destination in Sabah.
“Karanaan needs a new assemblyman who can drive more progressive development in infrastructure, basic amenities and local economic opportunities,” he said, calling on residents to work together to develop the area into a more competitive and progressive constituency for a better future.
Md Nadzmin is facing six other candidates, namely Karim Adam of KDM, Mohd Anuar Abdul Ghani (STAR), Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun (GRS), Mukinin @ Mazlan Daiman (Warisan), Naomi @ Neomi Francis (Independent) and Georgina L George (UPKO), in the ongoing state polls.
In the 2020 state election, the Karanaan seat was won by Perikatan Nasional candidate Masidi with a 4,814-vote majority.
