INDONESIA

 

1.GOV’T CONFISCATES 250 TONNES OF THAI RICE ALLEGEDLY SMUGGLED THROUGH SABANG FTZ -- JAKARTA GLOBE

The Indonesian government has seized 250 tonnes of rice from a warehouse in Sabang, Aceh, after determining the shipment entered the country illegally, Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman said on Sunday.

 

2.NU TELLS YAHYA TO RESIGN OVER PRO-ISRAEL SPEAKER -- THE JAKARTA POST

An internal conflict has erupted within the country’s biggest Islamic organisation, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), with the group’s supreme council calling chairman Yahya Cholil Staquf to resign for inviting a United States scholar known for his support of Israel during the war in Gaza to an internal event in August.

1.REVENUE COLLECTION, NATIONAL GROWTH DOMINATES ASSEMBLY -- VIENTIANE TIMES 

Lawmakers debated revenue collection, improving roads, social investment and environmental protection at the ninth National Assembly. They urged for improvement in revenues from mining operations and remove tax exemptions that reduce the government’s income.

 

2.ADB FUNDS SKILLS TRAINING FOR LAOTIAN YOUTH -- VIENTIANE TIMES

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will channel RM149 million (US$36 million) to strengthen vocational education in Laos. The aim is to develop market-ready skilled workers and generate jobs for young people, especially for women.

1.NEW AGRI UNIVERSITY TO MODERNISE RURAL ECONOMY -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR

The newly inaugurated University of Agriculture and Livestock Breeding (Maubin) will produce human capital to enhance rural development and modernise the agriculture sector. The institution will produce about 300 agricultural and livestock professionals annually.

 

2.FOREIGN TOURIST ARRIVAL REACH 800,000 -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR

About 800,000 foreigners visited Myanmar from January to October this year, with Chinese, Thai and Korean nationals dominating arrivals. Myanmar is promoting sustainable tourism and encouraging the use of green energy in the tourism sector.

2. DEFECTIONS BOOST BJT POLL HOPES -- BANGKOK POST Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, in his capacity as leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, on Sunday expressed confidence his party would gain the trust of the people in the general election expected early next year.

 

VIETNAM

 

1.FLOODING FORCES SUSPENSION OF 44 TRAINS -- VIETNAM PLUS

Forty-four passenger trains have been suspended due to heavy rain and flooding in recent days across Gia Lai, Quang Ngai, Dak Lak and Khanh Hoa provinces. Railway authorities refunded more than 21,000 tickets.
