BN DEPUTY CHAIRMAN MOHAMAD PRAISES SABAH'S ‘CALM’ CAMPAIGN

KOTA BELUD, Nov 24 (Bernama) -- With five days to go before polling, Barisan Nasional (BN) deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan has described the campaign for the 17th Sabah State Election as healthy and calm, reflecting the political maturity of voters.

Mohamad, who is also UMNO deputy president, said that although there were occasional instances of rather harsh campaign tones, overall, there had been no tension like what was seen in previous elections.

“I am very pleased because the election campaign in Sabah seems calm. The people of Sabah appear politically mature. They can accept and express their views… if there were places that used to be rather tense, here there is no such tension.

“Everyone is campaigning healthily, presenting their respective manifestos and explaining to voters what they can do if given the opportunity to represent their constituencies,” he told Bernama while campaigning in the Tempasuk constituency here today.

When asked about BN’s election machinery, he said they were well organised and energetic, having done the groundwork well ahead of nomination day.

"The machinery, supported by ‘adoptive states’ from the Peninsula, has been assisting local teams to manage the election in a more structured and orderly manner.

“Continue this good work until the final day,” he said.

He also expressed hope that young voters’ support would favour BN candidates, especially in areas where they form the majority.

Polling is on Nov 29, while early voting is tomorrow.
