MELAKA PREPARES FLOOD CONTINGENCY PLAN FOR SPM 2025

MELAKA, Nov 24 (Bernama) — The Melaka government through the state Education Department has prepared a contingency plan for students involved in the 2025  Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examination which will begin tomorrow, in case flooding occurs in the state during the Northeast Monsoon period.

State Education, Higher Education and Religious Affairs exco Datuk Rahmad Mariman said the contingency plan includes transferring students in schools affected by the flood to other examination centres that are safer, thus ensuring that students do not drop out of the examination.

"In Melaka, there have been floods before, but they are not as serious as in neighbouring states such as Johor and the east coast states and they have not affected students sitting for the SPM.

"However, we are not taking the matter lightly, but have prepared. If there are schools that cannot be used for the examination, the students involved will be transferred to nearby schools," he said.

He said this after officiating the Melaka State Education Department Education Appreciation Ceremony which was also attended by state Education director Mahfudzah Mohamed Noor.

Earlier at the ceremony, Rahmad also presented the Melaka State Teacher Figure Award 2025 to Ibrahim Moktar, 71, and the Melaka State Education Leadership Figure Award 2025 to Ismail Mohmd, 62.

Meanwhile, Rahmad said the Melaka State Education Special Convention which will bring together about 2,500 stakeholders in the education sector in the state will be held on Dec 12 and 13.

He said the convention would involve organising workshops according to 10 clusters that discussed various educational issues involving teachers and students in an effort to transform the state's education sector to be more dynamic and sustainable.

He said the stakeholders involved consisted of headmasters, principals, discipline teachers, counselling teachers, form four and six students, chairpersons of parent and teacher associations from government and private schools as well as various agencies including the Royal Malaysia Police, Malaysian Prison Department and the Melaka Islamic Religious Council.

"We are aware that various issues in the education sector have arisen recently, including involving student discipline and misconduct, challenges and problems faced by teachers as well as various educational agendas that need attention and solutions.

"The results or decisions from the workshops organised at the convention will be brought to the Education Ministry workshop level so that appropriate changes can be made," he said.
