DOOR-TO-DOOR CAMPAIGN STILL EFFECTIVE TO REACH VOTERS - BN SEKONG CANDIDATE

SANDAKAN, Nov 25 (Bernama) -- The Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for Sekong state constituency, Mohd Zharif Aizat Samsuddin, 30, is continuing with the door-to-door campaign because he is confident the method is still effective in listening to the pulse of the people.

Although the door-to-door campaign is considered traditional, he said the method gives him the opportunity to get closer to the residents and voters of Sekong through face-to-face interaction.

"If we do a big programme, it cannot touch the hearts of the voters. That is why I am maintaining the tradition of campaigning from house to house to listen to the people's voices," he told Bernama.

He said this while conducting a door-to-door campaign at Kampung Bonggaya Baru Hujung in Batu Sapi, here today.

Mohd Zharif said he would continue to be committed to the approach and so far almost 70 per cent of the villages in the Sekong have been covered since the campaign began.

Meanwhile, Mohd Zharif Aizat said that after a week of campaigning, one of the main issues raised by residents, especially in the water villages, was the problem of irregular waste management.

In this regard, if given a mandate in the 17th Sabah state election, he intends to provide a more regular waste disposal system to improve the level of cleanliness in the area.

Regarding the issue of village gazetting which was also raised by residents, Mohd Zharif Aizat said that if BN is given the opportunity to form the state government again, he will help resolve the issue of gazetting the villages.

The Election Commission (EC) has set Nov 29 as the polling day for the 17th Sabah polls with Nov 25 for early voting.
