TAWAU, Nov 26 (Bernama) -- Although not picked to contest in the 17th Sabah State Election, Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah (PHRS) president Tan Sri Liew Yun Fah is willing to help Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) candidate Samsiah Usman win the Kukusan state seat.
Liew said that Samsiah, who is also from PHRS, a GRS component party, represents the voice of the youth and has fresh ideas on the best way to develop Kukusan.
“Give young candidates a chance. The voice of young people is important. Samsiah has the ideas, commitment and ability to look after youths in Kukusan,” he said at a campaign programme with the youth of Kukusan here, which was also attended by Samsiah.
Liew said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim also gave a commitment to cooperate in implementing the development agenda in Kukusan and Merotai, which requires the continuity of the GRS leadership.
Liew added that Kukusan youths are a mature group and won’t be easily swayed by empty promises.
“These youths can’t be easily bought. They need job opportunities and a better life, not mere slogans,” he said, adding that many youngsters had to find jobs elsewhere due to the lack of employment opportunities, which needed to be addressed immediately.
He added that the Sabah government, led by GRS, is considered to be compatible with the needs of young people in the Kukusan area.
“Kukusan and Merotai need consisten development, not political experiments,” he said.
Regarding the gazetting of villages and the land issue, Liew said these matters needed to be expedited so that residents could have certainty of ownership.
“The land belongs to the villagers. We want it approved immediately so that they can live in peace and not be burdened by uncertainty,” he said.
Polling for the 17th Sabah State Election is on Saturday (Nov 29), with 73 seats up for grabs.
