KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 26 (Bernama) -- Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) today donated two four-wheel-drive (4x4) ambulance units to the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) to enhance emergency and disaster relief operations, particularly in high-risk and hard-to-reach areas.

TH said the RM570,000 wakalah zakat contribution reflects its continued commitment to supporting humanitarian initiatives and enhancing disaster preparedness, in line with its responsibility to safeguard the welfare of the ummah.

“These ambulance units will boost the MRC’s capability to enter remote areas, hilly terrains, flood zones and disaster sites that are inaccessible to conventional ambulances.

“This capability enables the MRC medical team to deliver early treatment more quickly, especially during critical moments to save lives,” it said in a statement today.

TH group managing director and chief executive officer Mustakim Mohamad, in the same statement, said the asset handover is expected to help more victims swiftly and effectively, especially in areas that were previously difficult to reach.

“TH believes that the addition of these assets will strengthen the aid network between TH, MRC and other rescue agencies, ensuring that the welfare of the people remains a priority,” he said.

According to TH, the ambulances are equipped with essential medical equipment such as resuscitation tools, oxygen supply, an automated external defibrillator (AED) and trauma kits, effectively functioning as mobile treatment rooms to provide initial medical care before victims are transported to hospital.

Meanwhile, MRC secretary-general Datuk Danial Iskandar Abdul Rahman expressed his appreciation for the contribution, describing it as a significant enhancement to the organisation’s operational capabilities.

“This 4x4 ambulance provides greater flexibility and mobility, ensuring that victims receive immediate and safe treatment, especially in remote areas and disaster zones,” he said in the same statement.

The MRC currently has over 240,000 volunteers and 179 branches nationwide, handling more than 14,000 emergency calls annually, in addition to actively participating in humanitarian missions at both domestic and international levels.
