KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 27 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia ended the morning session lower today, as investors took a breather from bargain-hunting activities amid a lack of fresh catalysts, despite the upbeat regional markets’ performance.
At 12.30 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) fell 3.96 points, or 0.24 per cent, to 1,620.54 from Wednesday’s close of 1,624.50.
The benchmark index, which opened 2.66 points higher at 1,627.16, swayed between 1,617.76 and 1,629.26 during the session.
The broader market was negative, with decliners thumping gainers 602 to 357. A total of 521 counters were unchanged, 1,296 untraded, and 82 suspended.
Turnover reached 2.92 billion units, valued at RM1.45 billion.
Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd vice-president of equity research Thong Pak Leng told Bernama that profit-taking activities have emerged in the local bourse, weighed down by the increasing volatility of global markets.
Among heavyweights, Maybank was flat at RM9.98, Tenaga Nasional gained 10 sen to RM13.22, IHH rose 30 sen to RM8.37, while Public Bank fell one sen to RM4.37 and CIMB dropped eight sen to RM7.52.
On the most active list, MTouche fell 1.5 sen to four sen, Nationgate and Zetrix lost one sen each to 98.5 sen and 82.5 sen, respectively, while VS Industries was unchanged at 48 sen, and Tanco gained three sen to RM1.12.
Top gainers included F&N, which rose 60 sen to RM34.20, Dutch Lady was up 54 sen to RM29.68, Time Dotcom put on 43 sen to RM5.20, BLD Plantation garnered 30 sen to RM14.90, and ITMAX increased 25 sen to RM4.75.
Among the top losers, Petronas Dagangan shaved 96 sen to RM19.86, Nestle lost 70 sen to RM109.10, Petronas Gas slipped 52 sen to RM17.76, KL Kepong eased 30 sen to RM20.30, and Sunway fell 18 sen to RM5.37.
On the index board, the FBM Emas Index fell 14.45 points to 12,035.03, the FBM Emas Shariah Index added 3.38 points to 12,004.07, and the FBMT 100 Index slid 11.91 points to 11,817.34.
The FBM Mid 70 Index advanced 56.58 points to 17,020.36, while the FBM ACE Index dropped 52.37 points to 4,852.07.
Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index shed 45.71 points to 18,604.55, the Plantation Index lost 47.72 points to 8,151.40, the Energy Index rose 1.62 points to 756.91, and the Industrial Products & Services Index eased 0.35 of-a-point to 164.37.
