APPLE TEACHER STARTS DIGITAL CLASSES FOR CHILDREN AT PPS

MARANG, Nov 28 (Bernama) -- An enterprising digital teacher took the initiative to open a class at the temporary evacuation centre (PPS) of SK Bukit Gasing here, to help children via online education.

El Gamillo Habibun Tan, 45, said the effort was to ensure that children at PPS's free time was filled with beneficial activities and did not fall behind in lessons.

El Gamillo, who is also the senior assistant for co-curriculum at SK Gasing, said the classes are held nightly from 9 to 11 pm and have received strong support from parents and the school management.

“This effort is also to ensure that children are not bored at PPS. Indirectly, the atmosphere at PPS is also more lively instead of the quiet humdrum without activities at night.

“Last year, I made a video screening for children at the same PPS, but this time I want (children) to strengthen their knowledge of digitalisation through more interactive digital learning,” he said when contacted today.

El Gamillo, who is also an Apple Professional Learning Specialist and National Digital Teacher Icon 2024, said the initiative could be implemented well in an organised manner because SK Gasing has complete digital facilities, including 30 learning tablets for pupils to use.

Hailing from Muar in Johor, he said about 20 children participated in the class, which gave them the opportunity to use iPads and learn through the Apple teaching community (ATC) ecosystem.

“A more interactive learning pattern can attract children's interest, thus reducing the pressure when they are cooped up in a zoned placement like the PPS.

“I hope the digital classroom approach at PPS can be used as a model for emergency education whenever floods strike in the future,” he said.
