SABAH POLLS: RESOLVING WATER WOES LIMUS’ KEY STRENGTH IN KUALA PENYU

KUALA PENYU, Nov 28 (Bernama) -- Resolving the long-standing water supply issue in Kuala Penyu has become one of the key strengths of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) candidate for the Kuala Penyu state seat, Datuk Limus Jury, as the campaign for the 17th Sabah State Election enters its final stretch.

Limus, who has served nearly three terms, said that the large-scale water supply projects currently underway, and those already completed, in the constituency are clear evidence of his capability in addressing the people’s basic needs, which in turn helps pave the way for new investments into the district.

“The ongoing Kuala Penyu district water supply project alone involves RM100 million, and is already under construction.

“For the replacement of old pipes, RM40 million has been allocated, and an additional RM21 million is for the construction of tanks on higher ground, to ensure adequate water coverage there,” he told Bernama when met during a campaign event in Kiambur, yesterday.

He said that one of the biggest achievements was resolving the long-standing water supply problem in the Menumbok area, which had also struggled with similar issues for many years.

“Before I became a people's representative, the water issue was the most pressing problem in the Kuala Penyu district. But alhamdulillah, in Menumbok, we have resolved it. The project, worth RM50 million, has been completed,” he said.

With that confidence, Limus said that the near-completion of the ongoing water project in Kuala Penyu places the district in a strong position to attract investors, particularly in the tourism sector.

Among the key tourism projects expected to spur the local economy is the construction of a five-star Club Med hotel in Tanjung Aru, here, which is slated for completion next year, and is projected to create up to 3,000 job opportunities for locals.

In addition, housing and public facilities development is being actively carried out, including the construction of 100 shophouse units by the Development and Housing Board (LPP), along with beautification initiatives at Tasik Setumpok.

He also urged voters to maintain their support for GRS to ensure continuity in the district’s development, in line with the Kuala Penyu District Strategic Plan 2026-2035, announced recently by the Chief Minister.

Limus faces a six-cornered contest for the Kuala Penyu state seat.

Kuala Penyu, located about 114 kilometres from Kota Kinabalu, has 22,288 registered voters who are eligible to cast their ballots in the state polls tomorrow (Nov 29).
