MAIPK TO MOBILISE POST-FLOOD ASSISTANCE TO EASE VICTIMS’ BURDEN

28/11/2025 09:57 PM

IPOH, Nov 28 (Bernama) -- The Perak Islamic Religious and Malay Custom Council (MAIPk) will mobilise a post-flood assistance mission in areas affected by the disaster.

MAIPk Zakat Distribution Division general manager Suhaimi Yusoff said the initiative includes helping with the cleaning of flood victims’ homes to ease their burden.

“Actually, MAIPk does not have a specific allocation for flood relief because zakat assistance is designated for asnaf, the poor, mualaf, ibnu sabil, those in debt and fisabilillah.

“However, we have set aside a small allocation to assist victims affected by this flood disaster,” he said when met by reporters after the MAIPk Professional Scholarship and Bursary Student Excellence Awards 2025 ceremony, which was officiated by MAIPk chief financial officer Mohd Said Mohd Rais here today.

As of this afternoon, a total of 5,503 flood victims from 1,663 families are still taking shelter at 46 temporary evacuation centres (PPS) across the districts of Manjung, Hilir Perak, Perak Tengah, Bagan Datuk, Larut, Matang and Selama, as well as Muallim.

Earlier, in his speech, Mohd Said said MAIPk had sponsored 26 outstanding students from low-income households through the domestic professional field scholarship assistance scheme, covering various fields including Health Sciences, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Engineering Sciences and Mathematics.

He said MAIPk has allocated RM1.6 million this year to cover tuition fees, accommodation, and a RM600 monthly living allowance for these students.

MAIPk has also allocated RM244,000 under the 2026 school preparation assistance programme for 488 students who are orphans in 17 shelter and care centres across the state.

“Each student received a special contribution of RM500 to prepare for the new school session next year,” he said.
