KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 28 (Bernama) -- The Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia (ABIM) is taking proactive measures to address the escalating flood situation in several states across the country.
Its Secretary-General, Ahmad Fawwaz Ahmad Shukri, said ABIM, in collaboration with Global Peace Mission (GPM) Malaysia, Adab Youth Garage (AYG), and Rahmah Support Team (RST), is carrying out the delivery of basic goods packs, providing hot meals for victims at homes and temporary evacuation centres (PPS), and conducting post-flood clean-up operations.
Also being implemented are the distribution of blankets, quilts, and clothing to affected families, in addition to assistance in evacuating patients from hospitals and homes stranded by the floods, especially in Perlis, Kedah, Kelantan, and Perak.
"All these efforts are driven through the mobilisation of volunteers, logistical assets, and close cooperation with local communities and related agencies. To date, a total of 260 trained volunteers have been involved, and this number is expected to continue increasing according to field needs," he said in a statement today.
Ahmad Fawwaz said that to ensure assistance is more systematic and able to reach more victims, ABIM and its network of agencies have opened seven Operations and Donation Collection Centres nationwide, and this number will be increased from time to time as needed.
He said these centres, among other roles, coordinate assistance for basic necessities, clothing, and hygiene kits, organise the mobilisation of cleaning volunteers, provide psychosocial support at PPS, and manage the logistics of donations and volunteer participation.
Additionally, Ahmad Fawwaz said that the public who wish to contribute can do so through www.infaqabim.com
In facing the challenge of these floods, he said ABIM and its network of agencies remain committed to ensuring that every form of assistance is implemented quickly, orderly, and based on the needs of the victims on the ground.
"This is the time to show the solidarity of the Malaysian people in facing this joint trial. ABIM urges all parties, including government agencies, the corporate sector, educational institutions, civil society organisations, and local communities, to work hand-in-hand to help those affected so that no one is left behind in this critical situation," he said.
