IPOH, Dec 3 (Bernama) -- The Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) has advised the public to exercise caution when carrying out activities along Sungai Perak, following an incident in which a man was attacked by a crocodile in Kampung Sungai Buaya near Teluk Intan last Saturday.

Its Perak director, Yusoff Shariff, said members of the public, especially fishermen, should avoid wading into the river or fishing alone in the Sungai Perak area.

“Perak Perhilitan is monitoring the Sungai Perak area and has installed crocodile warning signs to remind the public to stay vigilant, as we want to prevent any untoward incidents,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.

The media recently reported that a man sustained serious knee injuries after being attacked by a crocodile at an orchard area in Kampung Sungai Buaya last Saturday.

According to Yusoff, the department received the report at 6.30 pm, and the injured victim was taken to Teluk Intan Hospital for treatment.

He said the crocodile could have come from a nearby irrigation canal that overflowed due to floods in the surrounding area.
