SIBU, Dec 4 (Bernama) -- The Sarawak government is committed to strengthening rural development and guaranteeing the people's rights to Native Customary Rights (NCR) land through the continuous implementation of the NCR Land Survey Programme which has been implemented since 2010, said Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
Awang Tengah who is also the state Minister of Natural Resources and Urban Development II and state Minister of International Trade, Industry and Investment, said that as of October 31, the government through the Land and Survey Department had surveyed 1.22 million hectares of NCR land perimeter-wise throughout Sarawak.
"An area of 947,442 hectares of this has been gazetted as a Native Communal Reserve under Section 6 of the State Land Code," he said in his speech at the Handing Over Ceremony of the Native Communal Reserve Gazette Section 6, Land Title Letter Section 18 of the State Land Code and Land Compensation Cheque for Sibu Division at the Islamic Complex Hall today.
His speech was read by the state Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment, Datuk Len Talif Salleh.
According to him, the government also gazetted two new Native Communal Reserve areas, respectively involving the Lembangan/Bekakap/Bawang Assan/Tanjung Manis Area (807 hectares) and Tebalong, Batang Oya (1,042 hectares).
He said that the work of surveying individual lots under Section 18 of the State Land Code was also actively implemented and so far 106,467 individual lots had been surveyed, involving an area of 127,016 hectares, while 34,507 lots had been issued with title deeds.
He also reminded NCR landowners not to sell their land easily for short-term profit, but instead take advantage of various government initiatives through the Ministry of Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development (M-FICORD) to develop the family and community economy.
At the ceremony, 195 land title deeds were handed over to 171 recipients from four areas including Pasai Siong, Ngemah, Nanga Dap, Mapai and Nanga Tanyit.
A total of 170 landowners received Land Compensation Cheques totalling RM4.49 million for the implementation of the new Teku-Pasai Siong to Kemuyang road project under the People's Project.
