KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 5 (Bernama) -- Driven by a lifelong passion for law, Shamsul Azlan Mohd Noor, 55, finally realised his dream of becoming a lawyer today.

The historic moment was made even more special as it was a joint accomplishment with his daughter, Zeti Akhtar Nabilah, 24, who was also admitted as a barrister and solicitor at the High Court of Malaya.

“I never expected to be admitted as a barrister and solicitor alongside my daughter. I studied law because I am passionate about it.

“This is a historic moment for us. Alhamdulillah, it is all part of Allah’s plan,” he told Bernama after the admission ceremony before High Court Judge Azlan Sulaiman today.

Azlan presided over the ceremony and approved the admission petitions for Shamsul Azlan and Zeti Akhtar as barristers and solicitors, following confirmations of no objection from the Attorney General’s Department, Malaysian Bar Council, and Selangor Bar Committee.

Shamsul Azlan earned a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degree from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Shah Alam, in 2002 and completed his chambering at Messrs Hasbullah Mohamad & Co on Nov 3, 2025. He also holds a Bachelor of Economics (Honours) from Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (UIAM).

"While working in the banking sector, I had the opportunity to read law at UiTM. I completed my degree in 2002, the year Zeti Akhtar turned one," he said.

A member of the UiTM Alumni Federation Executive Council, Shamsul Azlan, encouraged young people to pursue knowledge at any age and to seize every opportunity to learn.

"Learning is never a waste. Islam teaches us to seek knowledge from the cradle to the grave, and that is my principle. Insha-Allah, knowledge brings countless benefits. I feel young again when I study. It requires genuine interest. We can achieve anything with passion," he said.

Meanwhile, Zeti Akhtar expressed her gratitude and joy at sharing the admission ceremony with her father.

"At first, I couldn’t believe it. I thought he was joking about finishing his chambering, but he really did it. I was so surprised that we were called to the bar together," she said.
