PUTRAJAYA, Dec 6 (Bernama) -- The Federal Government will continue discussions with representatives from the Terengganu state government and the Federal Land Development Authority (FELDA) to seek a solution for the dispute of 10 FELDA and FGV Holdings Berhad (FGV) plantations in the state.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, who is also the MADANI Government spokesman, said that all parties agreed that there was a need for discussions during a meeting with Treasury secretary-general Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican and Terengganu state secretary Datuk Zulkifli Ali yesterday.
“So we are following the process before we make any decisions. Maybe at the upcoming Cabinet meeting, there will be several matters brought up by the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim), but as of yesterday evening, the meeting took place and discussions will continue,” he said at a media conference after officiating the close of the Safe Internet Campaign Mega Carnival 2025 at the IOI City Mall exhibition and convention centre here today.
Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching, Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) managing director Abdul Karim Fakir Ali and Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Chief Executive Officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin were present at the event.
Fahmi also said that there were no discussions involving the state government and the Cabinet about the matter at present.
Last Sunday, the Terengganu government issued notices prohibiting trespass on FELDA-operated land across 10 plantations, involving approximately 15,000 hectares.
The action follows the state's claim that the land has been developed for over 40 years without the payment of premiums, taxes, or profit shares.
The notices were served simultaneously to plantation managements in Setiu, Besut, Kemaman, Marang, Dungun, and Hulu Terengganu.
