KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 7 (Bernama) — Japan’s Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG), via Tokyo Gov channels, has surpassed 1.37 million followers across all its social media platforms, marking a significant milestone in its efforts to showcase the Japanese capital’s culture, innovation, and safety to a global audience.

In a statement, TMG said the growing social media presence reflects increasing international interest in Tokyo, as the government uses these platforms to share updates on city initiatives, technology, and daily life, aiming to engage with a global audience.

One of its key initiatives is SusHi Tech Tokyo, described as Asia’s largest innovation conference, which envisions the future of sustainable cities and is held annually around April and May.

To promote the event, highlights are shared in Reels and collaborative posts through TMG’s social media accounts on Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), YouTube, and LinkedIn, with international influencers, offering a dynamic insight into the conference.

"The next SusHi Tech Tokyo is scheduled to take place from April 27 to 29, 2026. The event will bring together startups, investors, corporations, cities, and students from around the world to exchange ideas and collaborate on solutions to urban challenges,” read the statement.

On urban resilience, TMG is also promoting its "Safety for the Next 100 Years" initiative, with its recent partnership with travel influencer "Yamatrips" to produce a behind-the-scenes video of Tokyo's massive underground tunnel system, which protects the city from flooding.

"Tokyo Gov will continue to share stories about the city’s efforts to safeguard both residents and visitors, stay tuned for more!" it stated.

On its official Instagram account, TMG is also engaging the public through the #MyEdoTokyo campaign, inviting social media users to post photos of the city.

"Today's Tokyo blends Edo's rich heritage with cutting-edge innovation, creating a one-of-a-kind city where history meets the future," it added, explaining the historical significance of "Edo" as the former name of Tokyo.

Selected user submissions may be featured on TMG’s official Instagram, X or Facebook accounts.

For more information, the public can follow the Tokyo Metropolitan Government on Instagram (@tokyo_gov), Facebook, and X, as well as their LinkedIn and YouTube channels.
