Competing in a field of six athletes, Aniq Kasdan, who is part of the Road to Gold (RTG) programme, posted a combined total of 285kg, comprising 125kg in the snatch and 160kg in the clean and jerk.

The gold medal was claimed by Thailand’s Theerapong Silachai with an impressive total lift of 304kg (131kg snatch, 173kg clean and jerk), Indonesia’s Ricko Saputra secured silver after lifting 295kg (132kg snatch, 163kg clean and jerk), while Vietnam’s Doung K took the bronze with a total of 289kg, following lifts of 125kg in the snatch and 164kg in the clean and jerk.

For the record, the Malaysian Weightlifting Federation (PABM) is determined to end a 20-year gold medal drought at the SEA Games, with the last gold won by Che Mod Azrol Che Mat in the 105kg in 2005.
