PERSISTENT WATER SUPPLY ISSUES IN SEBAUH MUST BE RESOLVED IMMEDIATELY - TIONG

BINTULU, Dec 17 (Bernama) -- The authorities have been urged to take immediate and concrete action to resolve persistent water supply problems, including frequent pipe bursts and low water pressure, affecting residents in the Sebauh area here.

Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, who is also the Bintulu Member of Parliament, said the recurring issues should no longer be dismissed under the pretext of “continuous monitoring” or by denying the existence of the problem.

“Concrete improvement measures must be implemented without delay to fully resolve the water supply difficulties faced by residents in Sebauh,” he said in a statement today.

Tiong said he had recently raised the matter at the Divisional Development Committee (DDC) meeting, highlighting frequent complaints from residents about repeated pipe bursts, insufficient water pressure and occasional water outages.

He said water quality was also a concern, with residents reporting murky water, while low water pressure tended to worsen during festive periods when demand increased.

“Although the relevant agencies claim there are no problems with the local water supply, reports from my team indicate that complaints from residents are still being received regularly and dissatisfaction among the public remains high,” he said.

Tiong said that merely increasing water pressure without upgrading supporting infrastructure would only result in more pipe bursts, stressing the need for a long-term solution.

“I urge the relevant agencies to upgrade and replace existing pipelines with larger-capacity pipes as soon as possible to address the root cause of the water supply problem,” he said.
