BANGKOK, Dec 17 (Bernama) -- The national women’s team created history when they bagged Malaysia’s first gold medal in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) event after defeating the Philippines in the final at the Chulalongkorn University here today.
The team of Qurratul Ain Nurfarisha Nizam, Afrina Balqis Ibdhi Har Ali, Hanis Wahidah Dashuki, Queenie Lim and Sharifah Alia Husna Syed Fakrrurozi produced an outstanding performance to overcome the fancied Philippines 4-3.
This is Malaysia’s first gold medal in the women’s MLBB event since it was contested at the 2023 Phnom Penh SEA Games in Cambodia, where they returned home with the bronze medal.
This is also the country’s first gold medal in the MLBB event since its introduction at the 2019 Manila SEA Games.
It is also Malaysia’s first e-sports gold medal since the 2019 edition, when Dr Yew Weng Kean won the Hearthstone event.
Earlier, the men’s MLBB squad had to settle for the silver medal after losing 4-0 to the Philippines in the final.
