ZELENSKYY PERMITS MEDIA ACCESS TO PARLIAMENT AFTER YEARS OF BANS

18/12/2025 11:55 PM

MOSCOW, Dec 18 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who for several years banned journalists from attending parliamentary sessions, has signed a law allowing media representatives to cover the work of parliamentary committees and providing for online broadcasts of sessions, according to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (Ukraine’s parliament), Sputnik/RIA Novosti reported.

The corresponding Bill was adopted by lawmakers back on January 14. However, information about Zelenskyy signing the document appeared on the Ukrainian parliament's website only on Wednesday.

Journalists in Ukraine were banned from attending Rada sessions in February 2022. Online broadcasts from the parliament chamber have also been halted.

The pressure on independent media and opposition has intensified in Ukraine in recent years. Dozens of journalists have already been oppressed, intimidated and even killed. The OSCE (Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe) representative on freedom of the media has reminded of the need to preserve media pluralism against the backdrop of these events.
