BABY WITH GERM CELL TUMOUR TO GET RM500 MONTHLY ASSISTANCE FROM JKM - EXCO

IPOH, Dec 23 (Bernama) -- A one-year-old baby, who has been bravely battling a germ cell tumour at the back of his eye since last October, will receive monthly assistance of RM500 from the Social Welfare Department (JKM) starting January.

State Women, Family, Social Welfare, Cooperatives and Entrepreneur Development Committee chairman Datuk Salbiah Mohamed said Firas Affan Mohd Fauzi would receive assistance under the category for chronically ill patients.

“We also approved the Perak Sejahtera Card last October. We hope that the assistance from the state government will help ease the burden on Firas Affan’s family,” she said after visiting the baby boy at his home in Bandar Lahat Baru today.

Meanwhile, Firas Affan’s father Mohd Fauzi Saad, 43, expressed his gratitude to the state government for the assistance provided to his baby.

“I am deeply touched by the concern shown by the state government, as well as by members of the public who came forward to help after the media reported on my son’s illness,” he said, adding that he often had to take leave as he needed to bring Firas Affan to the hospital two or three times a week.

Firas Affan’s mother, Anis Azwanie Azmi, 29, was reported last Friday as saying that her youngest child, the fourth of four siblings, often appeared lethargic and had facial swelling before being referred to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital here for further examination.

Anis Azwanie said her son had so far undergone chemotherapy twice and would require several more rounds of treatment.
