BATU PAHAT, Dec 28 (Bernama) -- The RM18.3 million Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) Airport project in Tanjung Laboh here is expected to be fully completed by April 2026 and is set to become a new landmark for Johor.

State Public Works, Transport, Infrastructure and Communications Committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh said the airport, which is currently 71 per cent complete, will be equipped with an 800-metre runway and a 12-metre-high air traffic control tower.

The airport is being developed on a 22.6-hectare site.

“Tanjung Laboh has the potential to become the ‘Southern Maldives’ of Malaysia, while UTHM will emerge as the first university in Southeast Asia to have its own maritime airport,” he said in a Facebook post.

He said the airport will not only serve as a pilot training centre, but also has the potential to offer charter flight services, seaplane operations, as well as act as a centre for aircraft and helicopter maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO).
