FOUR DOSM OFFICERS OBTAIN GLOBALLY RECOGNISED CDMP CREDENTIAL FROM DAMA INTERNATIONAL

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 30 (Bernama) -- The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) continues to strengthen its data management practices as four of its officers successfully obtained the Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) credential from DAMA International, which is recognised globally.

In a statement, DOSM noted that the CDMP serves as a global benchmark in the field of data management, enhancing the department's capability to build an integrated data ecosystem and reinforcing its commitment to world-class standards.

Chief Statistician of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin, welcomed the achievement, emphasising the importance of a solid data foundation strategy within the public sector.

"Strengthening data governance is essential to ensuring high-quality, standardized, and interoperable data throughout the statistical value chain. This certification equips our officers with global expertise to empower DOSM’s role as the nation’s trusted source of statistics," he said.

He added that this achievement is timely as DOSM accelerates its data modernisation agenda through initiatives such as the Statistics Data Warehouse (StatsDW), OpenDOSM NextGen, TaniStats 2.0, and DOSM GEOHUB.

According to him, the CDMP-certified officers will play a vital role in advancing data integration, improving data lifecycle management, and strengthening statistical infrastructure across all domains.

"Their expertise will contribute to more comprehensive, transparent, and evidence-based policy formulation, in line with DOSM's development priorities," he said.

Mohd Uzir said that in today's data-driven world, effective organisational data management, governance, and protection are the foundations of success. A strong nation relies on a robust statistical system to provide evidence for effective public policy, efficient economic management, and transparent governance.

He further noted that the certification supports DOSM's regional leadership role, as Malaysia chairs the 15th ASEAN Community Statistical System (ACSS15) Committee Meeting this year.

Consequently, enhancing data governance capacity within DOSM contributes to consistency, interoperability, and regional cooperation - all essential elements in advancing an integrated and trusted ASEAN statistical ecosystem.

Additionally, Malaysia recently ranked first globally in the biennial Open Data Inventory (ODIN) 2024/25 report released by Open Data Watch (ODW), outperforming 197 other countries.

"This achievement is a significant leap from our 67th position in the ODIN 2022/23 assessment," he said.
