DASHBOARD FOR TRACKING MA63 PROGRESS TO LAUNCH THIS MONTH - MUSTAPHA

01/01/2026 06:33 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 1 (Bernama) -- The Minister for Sabah and Sarawak Affairs, Datuk Mustapha Sakmud, has announced the development of a new online dashboard to track the implementation of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), set to launch by month's end.

The minister said the initiative has been approved by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof to increase transparency, particularly regarding Sabah’s claim for a 40 per cent revenue entitlement.

"The MADANI government, under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, remains steadfast in protecting and advancing the rights and interests of Sabah and Sarawak, in line with the spirit of MA63," he said in his New Year 2026 message.

He added that the MA63 negotiation platform has been strengthened with the formation of the MA63 Implementation Action Council (MTPMA63), chaired by the Prime Minister, and a Technical Committee led by Fadillah.

So far, 13 out of 29 MA63 issues have been resolved. Nine were settled under the current administration and four under the previous one.

"This is the most significant progress on MA63 implementation by any administration to date," he said.

Key resolutions under the MADANI government include recognising the Public Works Department and Irrigation and Drainage Department in both states, as well as the Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department and Sabah Water Department, as technical departments under Treasury Directive 182.

The government has also devolved regulatory authority over gas and electricity supply to the state governments of Sabah and Sarawak.

Mustapha noted that the federal and state governments are continuously negotiating the remaining 16 MA63 matters via the MTPMA63 council and its Technical Committee.

Acting as the joint secretariat, the Prime Minister’s Department for Sabah and Sarawak Affairs is closely monitoring the process in consultation with all stakeholders.

The department will also continue to facilitate engagement sessions with relevant ministries, agencies, industry representatives, academics, and NGOs to advance the implementation of MA63.
