02/01/2026 06:47 PM

KUCHING, Jan 2 (Bernama) -- A total of 617 officers and personnel of the Sarawak Department of Social Welfare (JKM) are ready to be deployed for disaster management operations, including flood response.

Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said 13 psychology officers are also on standby to assist flood victims.

“In terms of officers and personnel, we are fully prepared. We also have a psychological support team (PST) comprising 270 members, as well as 230 JKM volunteers.

“We do not want flood victims staying at relief centres (PPS) to feel uncomfortable, especially children,” she told reporters after visiting a relief centre at Surau Ar-Rahman, Kampung Sungai Batu, here today.

As of this afternoon, 1,178 people from 300 families are still at 10 relief centres in Kuching, Kota Samarahan and Lawas.
