LOS ANGELES, Jan 5 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- Disney and 20th Century's epic science fiction film Avatar: Fire and Ash continued to lead the North American box office for the third weekend in a row, bringing in an estimated US$40 million in ticket sales, Xinhua reported Sunday, citing figures from the measurement firm Comscore.
The third instalment in James Cameron's Avatar franchise has grossed US$306 million in North America and US$777.1 million internationally, with an estimated global total of over US$1 billion.
Disney's animated comedy film Zootopia 2 remained in the second spot with US$19 million this weekend. After just six weekends, the sequel to 2016's Zootopia has earned US$363.6 million domestically for a worldwide total of US$1.59 billion.
Rounding out the top three, Lionsgate's thriller film The Housemaid collected US$14.87 million in its third weekend, pushing its domestic tally to US$75.7 million through Sunday.
