DIRECTION OF GOV'T REFORMS CLEAR - ABIM

05/01/2026 10:19 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 5 (Bernama) -- The direction of MADANI government in improving institutional reform, social justice, economy and empowering the public is clearly seen through the seven key points announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today.

Angkatan Belia Islam Malaysia (ABIM) president Ahmad Fahmi Mohd Samsudin said the seven key points provided an important signal towards the building of a MADANI country based on trust, accountability and joint well-being, and ABIM supported reforms as the core of the country’s administration, including the separation of prosecutorial powers and the Attorney-General, limiting the Prime Minister’s terms, the setting up of the institution of Ombudsman and the drafting of the Freedom of Information Act.

“These steps are important to strengthen the country’s foundation and to curb abuse of institutional power,” he said in a statement today.

He said reforms must be followed up with clear public monitoring mechanisms, implementation timeframes that can be audited and periodic reporting to the public and should be expanded to structural reforms including political financing reforms, strengthening media freedom, improving the role of Parliament and a more structured relationship between the government and civil society.

He added that ABIM would continue its role as a partner that delivers constructive criticism and supports every step that benefits the public and would ensure that Malaysia was moving towards a MADANI country that is just and humane.
