CHINA'S LENOVO UNVEILS CROSS-DEVICE AI ASSISTANT QIRA

LAS VEGAS (Nevada), Jan 7 (Bernama-dpa) -- Lenovo unveiled a new AI assistant, Qira, at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on Tuesday, showcasing the Chinese computer manufacturer's push into cross-device artificial intelligence, reported German Press Agency (dpa).

Qira runs across Lenovo computers using Windows and Motorola Android smartphones, sharing a unified memory across all user devices.

“Lenovo Qira is not just another assistant; it is a new way intelligence shows up across your devices,” Lenovo manager Dan Dery said. “Our goal is to make AI feel less like a tool you use and more like an intelligence that works with you, continuously and naturally.”

Experts say Lenovo is aiming to replicate Apple's seamless ecosystem experience, where iPhones, iPads and Macs communicate and share data. Qira is designed to provide a similar experience across Windows and Android.

One feature may raise privacy concerns though: Qira builds a combined knowledge database linking selected user interactions, memories and documents across devices, potentially storing sensitive personal information. Lenovo emphasised that user consent and privacy are central to the system.

Data is generally processed locally rather than in the cloud, the company said, and Qira is integrated at the system level, meaning users do not need a separate app to operate it, unlike popular AI chatbots such as OpenAI's ChatGPT.

Lenovo is the world's leading computer manufacturer, holding over a quarter of the global market.
