MELAKA, Jan 10 (Bernama) -- A total of 400 villages nationwide will be selected under the Kampung Angkat MADANI (MADANI Adopted Village) initiative this year, with an allocation of RM500,000 provided for each village.
Political Secretary to the Minister of Finance Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim said the implementation of the MADANI Adopted Village initiative is being continued, following the positive impacts observed in various aspects, including social, economic and welfare development within local communities.
He said the initiative is not only aimed at addressing issues faced by the people, but also at narrowing the development gap between urban and rural areas.
“We do not need mega or luxury projects. Instead, the focus should be on solving problems or challenges faced by the community, such as flooding issues, which are often caused by poorly functioning drainage systems.
“In addition, the initiative can also involve the development or upgrading of infrastructure and basic facilities which benefit the local community, but have not been properly maintained, such as futsal or sepak takraw courts,” he told Bernama, at the launch of the Kampung Angkat MADANI programme at Kampung Sungai Putat, here, today.
Also present were Hang Tuah Jaya Member of Parliament and Deputy Minister of Higher Education Adam Adli Abd Halim; Ayer Keroh assemblyman Kerk Chee Yee; and Melaka State Development director Mohd Shahril Shari.
Earlier, Muhammad Kamil said that, for instance, the Kampung Angkat MADANI initiative at Kampung Sungai Putat involved the implementation of 11 physical projects, as well as welfare and community programmes, with a total allocation of RM1 million.
He said the physical projects included the construction of an open hall, new toilets at Masjid Kampung Sungai Putat and the Kampung Angkat MADANI landmark, upgrades to the drainage and sewerage systems, the village public hall and arch, the installation of solar lights at several locations, and road paving works.
He added that programmes implemented under the initiative comprised youth and women development activities, welfare and community programmes, and gotong-royong efforts to beautify the village.
“Our aspiration under the MADANI Government is to see the people smile as their needs are met, while the villages involved undergo a transformation into modern villages equipped with complete facilities,” he said.
