KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 12 (Bernama) -- Investigations into 21 Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) officers allegedly involved in immoral activities linked to the so-called ‘Yeye’ culture, which recently went viral on social media, will move to the legal process soon, said Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.
He said all the officers concerned are still performing their duties as usual and will have the right to defend themselves once the legal process is initiated.
“They are being investigated and once the investigation is completed, it will move to the legal process. Of course, they will have the right to defend themselves,” he told a press conference after the Defence Minister’s 2026 New Year Address at Wisma Perwira here today.
Mohamed Khaled stressed that prohibitions related to the consumption of alcohol and bringing non-family guests into mess facilities have long been clearly stipulated in Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) regulations.
He said only family members are allowed to enter mess premises, while bringing in other individuals without permission is prohibited, and this is known to the personnel involved.
As such, he said the incident was a breach of regulations by a handful of individuals and not a culture widely practised within MAF, as portrayed on social media.
“On social media, it is made to appear as though this is a common culture in MAF, when in fact the rules are very clear,” he said.
Mohamed Khaled added that firm action will be taken and, if found guilty, the maximum punishment, including dismissal from service, may be imposed.
On Jan 5, the Defence Ministry directed MAF to conduct an internal investigation into allegations involving the entry of outsiders and immoral activities at military camps, which had gone viral on social media.
In his message, Mohamed Khaled said the Defence Ministry and MAF have long banned immoral activities at all camps nationwide.
He said clear and strict rules and guidelines have been established governing all social activities that may be held in camps, especially following the formation of the Armed Forces Religious Corps, which is meant to curb any elements of wrongdoing among personnel.
Mohamed Khaled said individuals who tarnish the good name of MAF through sinful, illegal and immoral acts are by no means a reflection of the force’s values and credibility.
“To the people of Malaysia, the true face of the hundreds of thousands of MAF personnel is one of strength and extraordinary sacrifice — warriors of integrity who serve loyally and sincerely, uphold trust and are highly responsible,” he added.
