KINABATANGAN, Jan 13 (Bernama) -- Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Kinabatangan parliamentary by-election, Mohd Kurniawan Naim Moktar, has pledged to transform Kampung Paris 3 and the Sukau roundabout into a new commercial development hub to spur local economic growth.
Popularly known as Naim Moktar, he said the plan, if he secures the mandate, forms part of a broader strategy to develop the area while creating more job opportunities for young people.
“Kinabatangan is vast and full of potential. Every area needs a commercial economic centre in order to grow.
“If everything is scattered, it becomes difficult to attract investors. That is why we want development to be more centralised,” said the UMNO Youth central treasurer and Kinabatangan UMNO Youth chief after a community outreach programme at the Kampung Paris 1 polling district, here today.
The Kinabatangan by-election is a three-cornered contest involving Mohd Kurniawan Naim, Datuk Saddi Abdul Rahman (Warisan) and Goldam Hamid (Independent).
The by-election was called following the death of the incumbent, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, 66, on Dec 5 last year.
Polling is set on Jan 24, while early voting is on Jan 20.
